And so the story...
“Old World” – that is my first thought when I look at this bracelet. I love carnelian, perhaps because it has been used in jewelry for hundreds and hundreds of years. In fact, many of the glorious Etruscan pieces I drooled over in the Met in New York City included carnelian in their designs. I love how the gemstone just works with gold – especially the matte Florentine-type finish I used in this particular design. The fire that comes from the spectacular Czech Jablonex glass faceted beads just adds to the intrigue of it all. Three strands give the bracelet a significant presence and they feel so good on the wrist.
I can't help it -- I am always influenced by Miriam Haskell - just love all the bits and bobs her group used to make a piece of jewelry. This bracelet works by itself; but you know me, I have to mix it up with others from my collection. So, here are a few examples of the looks I styled. The bracelet closes with a top-quality gold vermeil double toggle clasp so you get just the right fit – 7 ¼” to about 8 ¼”. Since the bracelet is weighty enough, the toggle clasp is secure. It’s another one of those engineering deals – there has to be enough weight to the strands for the toggle to work properly but not too much as to make it uncomfortable.
