#0534 Chrysocolla & Rainbow Hickoryite Bead Bracelet

And so the story...

I don’t know why it took so long for me to do a design that brought these two stones together. I have worked with these stones for years and just the other day, while doing something totally unrelated a light went off and “flash” there it was, a new combo. Weird how that works. Sometimes the mind amazes me…well, actually it amazes me all the time. And, these days, when mine works...I am astonished!

As for the details of the bracelet. It’s bold – so if you want something demure and petite, I would suggest you pass on this. But, if you like large and unusual gemstones then this could be the unique piece to add to you growing collection. Chrysocolla is one of my favorite rocks (someday I have got to stop saying “my favorite” since it seems there are a lot of rocks that I love and like children, I shouldn't have a favorite).

If you like turquoise or malachite gemstones, there’s a good chance you’ll really like chrysocolla. The color of the stones in this bracelet is definitely blue – a beautiful shade of blue with various colored veining running through. Large polished nuggets really make it possible for the pure color of the stones to shine. If you are into the lore of stones, you’ll like that chrysocolla is associated with tranquility and peace, intuition, patience and unconditional love. It has long been thought to have gentle and soothing qualities.

While it looks like wood, don’t be fooled. Along with the name being a bit of a tongue-twister for me, rainbow hickoryite is actually a rock. I first found it at the Tucson Gem Fair many moons ago – it comes from a mine in northern Mexico; and, from what I understand, isn’t available in mass amounts. I think of it as my “lucky” stone because it sent me in an unusual direction with my jewelry business. That aside, I just love the look of it – it resembles the patterns found in various ringed woods – and the colors are soft and lovely. I used two different shapes with a high polish and a matte polish in the beads and they play off of each other nicely. I also love rainbow hickoryite with chrysocolla as it emphasizes some of the veining in the blue stone. Flashes of crystal, gold, bronze and topaz come from the finest Czech Jablonex glass fire-polished faceted beads. Add the triple link polished gold chain and wowzer – it’s flashy without being over-the-top.

Clearly I love this one alone...but the stacking possibilities are endless. I've shown a few ideas here. And, another from my stackables collection just came to mind #0369. Closes with a superior gold-plate oversized nautical style clasp so it’s easy to put on and take off by yourself – no doorman needed! Actual measurement is 8” but because the beads are bold, it fits slightly smaller. I added a 1 ¼” extender and I feel pretty safe in thinking this particular piece works on smaller to larger wrists.
