When I heard that Diane Musselmann, a lifetime friend and widow of war veteran Kenny Musselmann, was putting together an awareness and fundraising project in support of the first national memorial dedicated to the disabled veterans from all wars, the American Veteran’s Disabled for Life Memorial, I was inspired to reach out and help where and how I could. Diane completed her “Walking for Those Who Can’t” venture in October – walking from the VA Hospital in Long Beach and ending at the VA Hospital in San Diego – a ninety-mile trek completed in one week while pushing Kenny’s empty wheelchair. On November 10th, Diane was in Washington, D.C. at the official groundbreaking of the memorial – something she and Kenny had envisioned for years. This red, white and blue beaded rope soft bangle style bracelet is my small way of lending support. The Czech glass beads are in an array of red, white and blue designs – subtle but noticeable. Charms, of sorts, dangle from the signature antique pewter end caps that house the tiniest of hearts. Czech pressed, fire-polished and vintage glass beads round out the collection.
I personally love this rope-style design since they simply roll on and off the wrist and are slightly flexible when you are wearing them so they don’t get in your way as you go about your day. And, they look terrific layered. The first one out of the studio is being sent as a little surprise to Diane today – and as you might notice in the image above, I added an additional charm inscribed with the word “inspire.” Why? Kenny and Diane are inspiring people – their kids and grandkids, I’m sure, agree. The life they had together and the life that continues is nothing short of inspiring. I thought you might want to honor a disabled vet in your life – you can help out by buying one of these lovelies and wearing it with pride; sharing the story as you go about your life.
Twenty percent of the retail price of this bracelet will be donated to the American Veteran’s Disabled for Life Memorial fund – and, not just for today, or this month, but for as long as I am able to make them. Remember that the sterling silver “inspire” charm shown in the picture above is not included with the basic bracelet.
